What is RODP? The Regents Online Degree Program (RODP) is a collaborative partnership among all Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institutions. This partnership allows institutions to share resources and personnel needed to deliver quality online instruction. Enrollment in RODP sections is capped at 25 students. The program enrolls 12,000+ students from across the state and around the world in the fall and spring terms. When you develop a course for the RODP, you will retain ownership of the course, granting a license for use by TBR. Developers are given first right of refusal to instruct the first sections of the course each term it is offered and they are asked to act as mentors to other instructors for the course. All RODP courses are 100% asynchronous, meaning students are never required to be online at a designated day and time to meet with instructors or other students. The courses adhere to the semester calendar start, end, and exam dates. Students are required to view content, submit assignments, complete exams, post discussions, and otherwise communicate with the instructor according to deadlines posted in the course. RODP courses are administered differently than on-campus courses in that sections are created only as justified by enrollment. For example, ENGL 1010-R50 is placed on the schedule. When the 26th student enrolls, section R51 is opened. When the 51st student enrolls, R53 is opened. Instructors are assigned only as each section is opened. When the developing instructor reaches his/or her full course load for the term, other teachers are assigned to the additional sections that have opened. We will first check with the developing instructor's department for faculty qualified to teach the course. If UM faculty are not available, we will locate qualified faculty from outside the department or University. Teaching for the RODP is an excellent way to be exposed to best practices in online instruction and to gain valuable experience in online instruction.
