 HOW DO TELEWEB COURSES WORK?
Teleweb courses are available by accessing secure software housed at a web address. This software, known as eCourseware or Desire2Learn, will allow you to view course materials such as a syllabus, course objectives, and assignments. Additionally, you can view course content such as lectures, slide shows, audio files or film clips, and participate in the class via discussion boards, group projects and e-mail. You will also view a series of video programs that are broadcast on Comcast Cable (a limited number of courses also air on WKNO) and are also available for home rental, Internet streaming, or viewing in McWherter Library. The programs are not available from satellite dish providers.
Video broadcast schedule
Most of the courses are asynchronous, meaning the student and instructor or student and fellow students are not required to be online at the same time. This allows the student to complete assignments, post discussions, respond to e-mails, or take tests at times and places convenient to the student. This also means the student is required to be HIGHLY self-disciplined and well prepared to meet deadlines and sit exams.
Some teleweb courses may be synchronous, meaning students may be required to be online at a particular day and time, or may be required to attend on-campus class meetings or orientations. Be sure to read ALL FOOTNOTES when enrolling in teleweb classes so you will know exactly what is required of you in terms of any travel to campus.
Teleweb courses require at LEAST the same number of hours as an on-campus class to successfully complete. Some courses require more time than a comparable on-campus class due to the time it will take you to type in your discussion comments or work with other students to complete a project. Although most quizzes and exams are administered online, instructors do have the option of requiring students to take exams at an approved proctored site. If you are unable to take exams on campus, you may request test administration at an off-campus location by completing the request form. Keep these facts in mind when planning your schedule of classes.
